Research shows that creating a culture of reading is important in a school that wishes to develop lifelong readers - not just children who can read, but children who do. With that goal in mind, Ms. Chase applied for an innovation grant to build her classroom library.

Lincoln Charter Innovation Grants were developed to support Lincoln Charter educators and students by funding innovative, out-of-the-box ideas that promote sound education principles, creativity, and the LCS mission of rigorous college preparation.

Since its completion just days ago, students are already wandering in to find a book to take home.  Titles represent a selection of mostly Young Adult titles by a diverse group of authors. Ms. Chase hopes to use some of the books like We Were Here by Matt de la Pena, Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimalin, and The Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley in her upcoming unit of study by allowing students to choose their own books.
